On the 14th and 15th of August 2017, Solaris Offgrid was invited by UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) to talk at the World Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Benjamin David, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Solaris Offgrid, was speaking during the Future Energy Forum conference on the topic of Renewable Energy and Quality of Life. Benjamin appeared alongside many industry leaders in the field of renewable energy and clean cookstoves.

Solaris Offgrid shared its experience in improving quality of life during several workshops, and gave a technology pitch showing how our technology helps improve the quality of life of people around Africa. In particular:

  • How the Pay As You Go model allowed the Renewable Energy industry to move from a short-term “one time sale” relationship with their customers, to a model of long-term relationships with products optimised for durability and quality.

  • How Solaris Offgrid, through its modular model, allows a long-term and progressive improvement on the quality of life by allowing clients to have their system upgraded over time, providing a pathway from kerosene lighting to fully equipped house with TV and fridge while keeping the same spending as before. We highlighted how this method provided a realistic, sustainable and scalable way to drastically improve the quality of life of populations even if their income stays constant.

  • How our PAYG platform helps distributors running operations in the off-grid area to build a long-term relationship with their clients and emphasises a convenient way of collecting a plethora of data to accurately measure and improve the social and environmental impact of their solutions as well as ensuring sound business practices.
